About Duncanville, Texas
Duncanville is a city in southern Dallas County, Texas, in the United States. Duncanville’s population was 38,524 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes Duncanville, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Lancaster.
Were it not for the planned construction of the Chicago, Texas, and Mexican Central Railroad, the town of Duncanville would have not existed. From the initial plans of the Railroad, the track was to be laid down on a different route. However, the company contracted to complete the task was short on time. The shortened route had it passing through the parcel of two landowners G.H. Finely and James Horne.
The shortened route came with some benefits. The train from Dallas arrived at Cleburne two hours ahead of schedule. There was a need for a switching station. This was erected in the open field owned by the two landowners. It was to be known as Duncan Switch. Duncan Switch was what grew to be what we know and love as Duncanville!
